First ever order of conviction passed under PMLA - India

On 30 th January 2017, the Special Court (PMLA), Ranchi had delivered a judgment, holding Hari Narayan Rai, a former minister in the cabinet of three former Chief Minister of the state of Jharkhand, guilty of Offence of money laundering, punishable u/s 4 of the PMLA, for laundering around Rs 3.72 crore, earned through corrupt means. 
The Special Court has sentenced the convict to undergo rigorous Imprisonment for 7 years, along with a fine of Rs. 5 lakhs. Further, it was ordered that the property involved in money-laundering stands confiscated to the Central Government. 
PMLA came into force on 1st July 2005 and after around 13 years, this is the first ever order of conviction passed under PMLA.
